We’ve all asked that question “How did we survive without cell phones?” Not only do our cell phones become our totems, but we have created a world in which we are so dependent on them. Additionally, we’ve weakened our minds because of this dependency on them, so much so, that we don’t even memorize phone numbers any more. And cell phone companies have made it too easy for us not to use our brains by introducing technology that can transfer phone numbers from one phone to a newly purchased one.

One of the evening news programs did a story a while ago, in which they interviewed young adults and senior citizens and asked them memorizations questions: home phone numbers and important dates. The young adults couldn’t remember anything, yet the older folks remembered quit a lot (one gentleman remembered his home phone number from the 1940′s).

Somehow I am not convinced that all these advancements in technology are truly helping us. In regards to certain advancements (i.e. cell phones), I think these advancements are actually hurting us.

What ever happened to the good old days when you could just walk on over the the neighbors home and chat on the porch?
